Laser Marking 4130 Hardened Tool Steel
Industry: Tooling
Part Type: Connector Mold
Material: 4130 Hardened Tool Steel
Mark Data Type: Text
Laser Mark Type: Laser Etching
The part shown is a rubber connector mold made from 4130 hardened tool steel. Studs are inserted into the holes and silicone rubber is poured into the mold. The rubber, when removed, becomes the numbered rubber grommet that holds the contact pins for mil-spec connectors. The grommet needs the pin numbers on it for wiring purposes. The previous methodology for putting on the numbers was hand engraving the numbers into the steel.
The laser marked characters are 60 mils tall and the depth is 10 mils with a laser mark time of 11 seconds per character. The part was bead blasted after marking to remove dross and raised edges from the engraving.
The parts were marked using a Jimani Langolier Class IV open table fiber laser.
A Jimani Langolier Fiber Laser Marking System is a turn key system and an amazingly versatile tool. The workstation's long Z Axis adjustment can place the focusing lens as high as 29 inches above the marking surface. The system easily accomodates long focal length lenses, parts fixtures and large or tall parts. The industry standard 19" rack mount computer and Langolier Fiber Laser Controller are housed in the workstation frame making the unit completely self contained with the exception of a single 115 VAC household outlet. Mounted on casters, the system, if need be, can be moved from one work area to another without being "tethered" by water or high voltage connections. All Langolier fiber laser marking systems are supplied with Prolase, a user friendly, proven, robust laser marking systems software package.
