The lines being marked are for a precision rotary encoded pump motor. As the motor turns, light reflects off of the laser marked lines in order for a sensor to know the position of the motor. The encoder shaft is less than 0.25 inches in diameter and the lines are less than 0.001 inches in width. The spacing of the lines is critical and lines are exactly 1.425 degrees apart. This was done using a 20 watt Langolier and the Jimani servo motor controller driving a Sherline rotary indexer.
