What will it cost to mark my part?

Featured Image

The cost of having a part marked has little to do with the part's value but rather the time and effort involved. The cost of marking a part can be broken down into just a few categories:

  1. Preparing the part for marking: This includes removing excess packaging and confirming that customer marking instructions are clear and appropriate for the part to be marked. Unpackaging before marking and repackaging after marking are billed at a lower shop rate than the actual marking. product-as-received-from-customerunpackaged-product

  2. Creating the marking job file: Simple alpha-numeric text marking is generally accomplished using true type fonts available in the laser marking software in included in the “setup” charge. Part marking with non-standard typestyles, logos or unique patterns require that a graphic image of the marking be created and is charged separately. Customer supplied graphic images are rarely appropriate and must be reworked. Most graphic images fall into the $60.50-$100 price range. Subsequent marking orders from the same customer using the same graphical image do not incur additional graphic charges. Images below are an example of unusable art received from the customer and the final version that was used on the customer product.artwork

  3. Fixturing the part on the marking station: Every part type to be marked requires some type of mechanical fixturing in order to locate the parts quickly and accurately under the marking field of the laser. The charges for fixturing are included in the “setup” charge associated with each part type. Setup charges range from $33.50 to $60.50 depending on the complexity of the part and the fixturing.
